Accreditation
The Human Givens Institute’s Professional Register of human givens practitioners (who may choose to term themselves therapists, psychotherapist or counsellors) is accredited in the UK* by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA).
The Professional Standards Authority is an independent statutory body established to protect the public through its work with organisations that register and regulate professionals working in health and social care. Accountable to the UK Parliament, its reports help monitor and enhance protection of the public.
The mark of quality it confers assures the general public, service commissioners and employers that human givens practitioners, who are all members of the Human Givens Institute, are personally committed to high standards.
Accreditation with the PSA entails a rigorous process of evidence provision and demonstration of high standards in all areas in which performance and procedures are measured. This requires meeting the PSA’s standards in: governance, education and training, managing the register, setting standards, providing information and complaints handling. The HGI has met these standards since its accreditation in 2016. Monitoring the calibre of individuals on the register remains the responsibility of the HGI.
NHS recommendations
The NHS seeks, and recommends that the public seek, counsellors who are on a PSA Accredited Register, such as the HGI’s.
NHS Choices states that “reputable therapists will be registered with a professional organisation that’s been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) – this means they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practice”.
NHS Employers also emphasises the importance and benefits of Accredited Registers, the list of which is managed and held by the PSA. View here
On the NHS Health Careers website, Health Education England highlights the importance of Accredited Registers in its section on entry requirements and training.
“The PSA quality mark gives extra peace of mind to people seeking a counsellor, letting them know that Human Givens practitioners are committed to high standards of registration too. Human Givens practitioners who meet the far reaching standards of our register, as approved by the PSA, will display this quality mark as a sign of and pledge to continued high standards of practice.”
